Demystifying Health Misinformation
A transcendental milestone has been marked in the field of health with the birth of the International Alliance of Health Journalists and Informants, conceived at the First International Meeting of Health Informants in Granada.
Misinformation, an enemy that has infiltrated the social fabric, not only generates confusion, but also puts health and life itself at risk. It is a phenomenon that undermines trust in science, in health professionals and in the media.
Facing Current Challenges
Technological advancement, especially artificial intelligence, presents an additional challenge by flooding the digital space with information that is inaccurate and potentially dangerous to public health.
Faced with this reality, various organizations have raised their voices and have outlined a path of action to counteract the tide of misinformation in health.
Commitment and Collective Action
Signing a manifesto is the first step towards a joint fight. This manifesto, aimed at multiple social actors, points to the need to raise awareness, educate and take concrete measures to combat health misinformation.
The creation of the International Alliance of Health Journalists and Informants not only represents a strategic alliance, but also a firm commitment to truth and quality information in the field of health.
Clear Objectives, Defined Actions
The working committee outlined by these entities has a clear agenda: detect and deny misinformation, establish dialogues with digital platforms, promote health and science literacy, and actively participate in events and activities to counter health misinformation.
United Front in the Battle for Truthfulness
The pioneering organizations in this initiative are: Internews and its Health Journalism Network, Salud con Lupa of Peru, the Spanish Association of Scientific Communication, Comunica Biotec and the National Association of Health Informants of Spain.
This is just the beginning of a joint effort to safeguard public health and promote an informed and aware society.
