The Cannabis Oil and its Importance in Paraguay

Cannabis oil has gained recognition in Paraguay as a promising therapeutic alternative for certain specific diseases. Unlike a few years ago, today many people have understood the beneficial properties that this plant offers.

The Lasca laboratory has been a pioneer in importing cannabis oil to facilitate its exclusive purchase for authorized patients. Luis Ávila, marketing manager of Laboratorios Lasca, has explained the procedures and the possibility of national production.

Benefits of Cannabis Oil in the Treatment of Diseases

Cannabis oil contains components with healing principles that have shown positive reactions in the treatment of various diseases. According to Luis Ávila, these components are used to treat diseases such as refractory epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and advanced cases of cancer.

Cannabis oil is available in two forms: drops and spray, providing more convenient administration options for patients.

Procedures for the Importation and Marketing of Cannabis Oil

The import procedures for cannabis oil are similar to those of any other medicine marketed in Paraguay. These include import authorization, analytical controls, quality controls, obtaining health registration and subsequent marketing authorization. These processes and controls ensure that the product is suitable, controlled and safe for use.

Laboratorios Lasca imports products from the United States to have stock available in Asunción and avoid additional customs and authorization procedures. In addition, the products are under the ‘Intensive Drug-Surveillance’ regime, which means that the Ministry of Health and SENAD control the importation and monitor the doctors who prescribe cannabis oil.

Local Production and Future Challenges

The long-term goal is to achieve local production of cannabis oil in Paraguay. However, this requires compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards established by the World Health Organization (WHO). The raw material used must have a purity of between 98% and 100% of the pharmacological active, and the production processes must comply with GMP standards for pharmaceutical quality.

Local production of cannabis oil would reduce treatment costs and guarantee a constant and safe supply for patients in Paraguay.

Conclusions

The importation and use of cannabis oil in Paraguay has opened new therapeutic possibilities for patients seeking relief in the treatment of various diseases. As local production advances and quality standards are met, it is hoped that more people will be able to access this treatment safely and effectively.

It is important to highlight that the use of cannabis oil must be supervised by health professionals and that the legal and regulatory procedures established by the competent authorities must be followed.
