The video store revolution
Currently, with a single click we can access a wide variety of on-demand audiovisual content. However, Fuenlabrada has decided to transport us to the past to show new generations the revolution that video stores represented in the 80s and 90s. An exhibition full of nostalgia that cannot be missed.
The tribute to video stores
Miguel Ángel Jimeno, co-owner of the exhibition ‘Return to the video club’, tells us about this fascinating exhibition that can be visited in Fuenlabrada. In it, we can find a wide collection of tapes of different formats, such as BETA, VHS or V2000, as well as 300 figures of the most iconic characters of the time. In addition, the exhibition has original furniture from video stores and panels that show the evolution of these establishments.

One of the main attractions of the exhibition are the life-size figures of the protagonists of great film hits. We can find everything from Indiana Jones to Arnold Schwarzenegger, including Eliot and ET riding his flying bicycle. There’s even a Willow figure. Upon entering the exhibition, we are greeted by Doc and McFly in their famous ‘DeLorean’, a car made with a life-size 3D printer, with lighting and Fluzo condenser included.
A trip to the past
This exhibition is a way to teach today’s children and young people what their parents’ leisure was like in a time when streaming platforms such as Netflix or Amazon did not exist. Older people feel nostalgic when they remember the days when they had to leave the house, go to the video store and choose from hundreds of video cassettes to enjoy a movie at home. On the other hand, younger people are surprised to discover how the way they consume audiovisual content has changed over the years.
An exhibition for everyone
The ‘Return to the video club’ exhibition is part of the City Council’s ‘Fuenlabrada Friki’ project, which offers a stable program of exhibitions, competitions, workshops, concerts and festivals. It is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of video stores and relive those times when renting a movie was an adventure.
