The current state of CBD

Cannabidiol, known as CBD, is a substance present in marijuana. Its effects include relaxation, improved mood, and increased concentration. Additionally, it has been shown to suppress the psychotropic effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive component of marijuana.

Although more research is still needed, studies have shown solid evidence on the favorable properties of CBD for the treatment of some symptoms and diseases, always under medical supervision to avoid intolerances and interactions with other drugs.

Benefits of CBD consumption

CBD has therapeutic properties such as analgesic, antioxidant, anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, its use has been indicated in anticonvulsant, anxiolytic and antipsychotic treatments. It has also been used to control withdrawal syndrome in people undergoing substance abuse treatment.

Despite its benefits, it is crucial to purchase good quality products, since the consumption of products of dubious origin can cause adverse effects such as headaches, decreased appetite, dizziness and dry mouth.

Legal status of CBD in Spain

Currently, there is no law regulating the production or consumption of CBD in Spain. The substance is subject to the interpretation of international conventions.

The High Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that a Member State cannot prohibit the marketing of cannabidiol (CBD) legally produced in another Member State if it is extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant in its entirety.

If its consumption is considered as a food supplement, CBD would not be legal, but products applied topically, such as cosmetics or ointments, would be considered legal.

Despite the current regulations, three political parties with representation in the Congress of Deputies announced the presentation of bills to address the regulation of cannabis, which could mean changes in the regulation of CBD in the future.
