Therapeutic benefits of cannabis for skin conditions
Since ancient times, cannabis has been recognized as having therapeutic effects on various skin conditions. Although this knowledge was erased during the prohibition era, it has resurfaced strongly in recent years. An excellent way to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of cannabis is through the preparation of topical creams.
Unlike ointments, creams contain a higher proportion of water in their composition, which makes them more refreshing and less greasy. In addition, the components of the creams have a faster action on the skin.
Composition and ideal proportions of a cannabis cream
Cannabis cream is a mixture consisting of the following ingredients in the appropriate proportions:
Oily phase:
The oil phase represents between 20 and 40% of the cream and is composed of vegetable waxes or oils. These ingredients provide hydration and softness to the skin.
Aqueous phase:
The aqueous phase represents between 60 and 80% of the cream and is composed of water or herbal infusions. This part of the cream provides freshness and helps dilute the oily components.
To achieve an adequate union between the oil and aqueous phase, it is necessary to use an emulsifier. A recommended option is lanette wax, a vegetable wax that acts as an excellent emulsifier.
Recipe to prepare a therapeutic cannabis cream
Here is a simple recipe to prepare a therapeutic cannabis cream:
Ingredients:
– 200 cm3 of cannabis herbal infusion oil
– 50 grams of lanette sx wax
– 750 cm3 of water
Preparation:
1. Prepare the herbal cannabis infusion oil and reserve it.
2. Melt the lanette wax in a bain-marie, avoiding the temperature exceeding 65°C. Mix until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
3. Once the lanette wax has melted, add the cannabis herbal infusion oil and mix again until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
4. Heat the water in another container until it reaches the same temperature as the wax and oil mixture (around 30°C). This will facilitate emulsification and obtaining a cream of good consistency.
5. Slowly add the water to the wax and oil mixture, mixing constantly to achieve a homogeneous mixture. Let it cool and the cream will be ready to use.
