The impact of CBD on smoking

Smoking is a health problem that causes thousands of deaths each year due to diseases such as lung cancer. However, a study conducted by Washington State University (WSU) has found that cannabidiol (CBD) could be useful in helping people quit smoking.

According to research published in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology, CBD inhibits nicotine metabolism, meaning smokers can wait longer before feeling the need to light up another cigarette.

The WSU study

The WSU team conducted tests using human liver tissue and cell samples to demonstrate how CBD affects nicotine metabolism. They found that CBD inhibits a key enzyme for nicotine metabolism, reducing the urge to smoke

In particular, the metabolite 7-hydroxycannabidiol was studied, which demonstrated a 50% inhibition in nicotine activity. This suggests that even small amounts of CBD can have a significant effect

Future research

Although this study focused on laboratory and cell research, the WSU team is planning to conduct a clinical study to examine the effects of CBD on nicotine levels in smokers. More research is still needed to determine the exact dosage of cannabidiol that might work in humans.

In short, the WSU study suggests that CBD could be a useful tool to help people quit smoking. However, more research is required to fully understand the effects of CBD on smokers.
